The work Colin has carried out for me and for other colleagues in the NHS includes Dads and Lads sessions in Oxford, sessions for Men’s Health week in different parts of the county over several years and Health Check promotion at Oxford Utd. This included a larger scale campaign at a match earlier this year where Colin’s team successfully delivered ‘mini-checks’ to over 120 football fans before kick-off.

Colin trains and supervises his team well, plans and coordinates the activity and gives good advice to clients. His enthusiasm for improving the health of men is very motivational.

As a company with a very physical activity for most employees, we identified a need for them to understand better the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. We worked with Colin to understand what benefits would be achieved by offering health and well being checks to these employees both from a company and employee perspective.

The feedback from the employees on the benefits from the checks and service they received has always been positive as the team provide a friendly but focussed service. Following the last sessions provided, we have had requests from more staff to attend and some of those that have previously attended have requested the possibility of follow up sessions which we have been happy to provide.

NHS OXFORDSHIRE

Colin Nicholson and his team of nurses have provided an excellent service to NHS Oxfordshire on a number of projects, in particular delivery of a cardiovascular disease health check programme in the county.

This programme involved outreach work in a variety of community and workplace settings, providing health checks for employees and members of the public aged 40 – 74 years old. The work demanded high standards of professionalism and the ability to work in very different surroundings. Thanks to Colin and his team NHS Oxfordshire met its target for the programme and contributed to the detection and prevention of cardiovascular disease in the population.
